FRS Yorke: pioneer of modern architecture in Stratford-upon-Avon

Ian Farr

Monday 21 September, 6.00 pm - White Swan

Tonight, Ian will talk about the background to and post-war design influence of Mayflower Green (Terrace), the Grade II listed row of Flowers Brewery workers’ houses in Stratford.

These were built in 1939 by the influential modernist architect FRS Yorke, in partnership with his more traditional Stratford architect father, F.W.B. Yorke.

Mayflower Green’s story includes F.R.S. Yorke’s collaboration with the famous Bauhaus architect and designer Marcel Breuer, and the work of two under-recognised women architects..

Ian Farr is a former editor in art history publishing.
