The Changing Political Landscape of Stratford-upon-Avon
Richard Vos - Town Councillor
Politics has been around forever - just as sex existed before the 1960s and football was played before the start of the Premier League in 1992, so politics has always been at the heart of every culture and civilisation! Shakespeare's plays were full of political intrigue, plot and tragedy. How prescient was Hamlet when he spoke these words "A politician ... one that would circumvent God". And here we are today, in Shakespeare's own town, lively with local politics, embroiled in national political dramas. How much really has changed over the last 400 plus years? Has Stratford's political landscape now got what it wants, what it deserves or what it needs?
Richard worked for 35 years in Hotels and Hospitality. During that time he was General Manager of three of the town’s leading hotels: The Swans Nest, The Alveston Manor and The Shakespeare Hotel. He has always been involved in local groups and organisations: helping local schools to raise funds for various activities, in the organising team for the very first Stratford Food Festival in 2007, and for several years on the Stratford in Bloom committee. He is the local agent for the Liberal Democrat party.
